#InfluenceMe is live on Vimeo

My presentation from Outdoor Retailer is now live on Vimeo, in case you missed it!

About the preso:  Based on my own experience as an “Influencer” in the sports and outdoor market, and including research and responses from over 300 survey respondents about what inspires and influences their outdoor activities, this 50-minute presentation takes a deeper look at people who exhibit influential behavior and what makes them tick.

And I think some of the content will surprise you.

Enjoy, and I look forward to your comments!

  • Access Update at Gold Bar, WA April 13, 2012
TweetPlease help spread this announcement far and wide — access at Gold Bar could depend on the climbing community’s compliance with this agreement. From the Washington Climbers Coalition: As of Winter 2012 the Washington Climbers Coalition (WCC) has secured access to the gate on the road which leads up to the Gold Bar boulders and [...]
  • It’s been months. And all I want to do is climb. February 3, 2012
TweetI’ve had an okay ski season, all things considered, but today, looking out the window at a sunny day and clear skies, all I can think is sunshine, warm rock, and climbing bolt to bolt on 5.7s I’ve climbed a hundred times before as warm-ups because I’m so far out of climbing shape I don’t [...]
  • I’m not usually one to chase numbers. June 29, 2011
TweetBut, my amazing friends Fitz and Becca are about 10,000 downloads away from the one million downloads mark, for the Dirtbag Diaries. What does that matter?  Well … in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t.  Who really cares about one million downloads.  Or 5.16.  Or 5,000 followers.  On the other hand, the fact that [...]
  • AAC, you had me at Jack Tackle. June 24, 2011
TweetDear American Alpine Club: I should have joined eons ago.  I know.  It’s been on my to do list — literally — for years. I’m going to Rockfest in Mazama this weekend, and I nearly joined when I registered for Rockfest.  I’m not sure what stopped me. But today, when I received this announcement from [...]
  • The Love Letter: Not your Typical Adventure Film April 13, 2011
TweetI just reviewed The Love Letter by Fitz and Becca Cahall over at Elephant Journal… if you don’t feel like reading the review, the short version is, I loved it.  For a long list of reasons.  But if you don’t feel like reading the review, you won’t want to read them here either, so I’ll [...]

6/17/10 - It's been a long time since I wrote for Climbing... I think it was last July. If I close my eyes and think back over the last few months, and how very much there would be to catch up on, it's kinda dizzying. I've moved to Seattle, started a new job in the outdoor biz, kept blogging and writing, have snuck in some fun climbing trips a […]

7/17/09 - Rock Climbing with Complete Strangers - I'd originally written another essay on how much of a head case I am as a climber... I'll spare you, since that particular theme is getting a bit old. Luckily, inspiration struck when I asked my buddy, Ben Fullerton, if I could use some of his photos to go with this post. While flipping through his […]

3/20/09 - A new entry for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual on Climbing Mental Disorders - I'm not a psychologist, although at times in my life I've been a middle class American so I've had some exposure to shrinks. I broke up with my last shrink awhile back. Don't get me wrong, Therapist was a very nice woman, but it's the famil […]

I've been climbing since late 2004, but managed to exist as a recreational climber in those early years. I climbed in the gym regularly, but I didn't really seriously train for climbing. I took crag days around the pacific northwest with a variety of climbing partners often, but I prioritized my well-paying corporate gig and regularly missed climbi […]
